Stalke Out of Space Cube

Stalke Out of Space Cubeinvited visitors to a double group exhibition:

The focal point of the exhibition was the visual effects that arose through chemically “living” reactions between the material and the immaterial.

Transformation and context were brought into focus as the artists activated “living” works and subsequently left the creative process to the play of coincidence.

The exhibition posed the question of what happens when the artist relinquishes control of the work and allows nature to interact freely with the surroundings, creating unique traces of change.

Simple and insistent aesthetic approaches were confronted with conditions tied to the unknown, thereby shaping what lay beyond immediate control.

One of the central works, created in 1996 by the American artist Dove Bradshawfrom the Negative Ionsseries, demonstrated the creative power of coincidence: water, drop by drop, reacted with mountain salt in a gradual search for the lowest point in the room.

Three works by Aske Sigurd Kraul, then a new voice on the Danish art scene, activated microcosms that, within a specific time and place, revealed how connections could be sensed — even in the presence of viewers.

The Danish gallerist and artist Sam Jedigadded further dimensions to both the works and the exhibition space through his Cube Project. The presentation of each of the two other artists’ works was accompanied by a cube varying in form and material. In this way, both the works and the exhibition architecture were articulated, allowing each piece and each room to unfold within — and beyond — a cubic perspective.

When conceptual art was expanded into a four-dimensional spatial perspective, a more open interpretive field emerged for the viewer’s imagination and personal reflection.
