CO-INCIDENCE
Saturday, April 27, and Sunday, April 28, 12:00–17:00: Art in the Chapel in St. Hans Garden, Bistrup Allé 36,
4000 Roskilde.
The focal point of the group exhibition wasthe visual effects that arosethrough chemically living reactions between the material and the immaterial.
Transformation and context were broughtinto perspective as the artists activated“living” works and subsequently leftthe creative process to the play of coincidences.
The exhibition posedthe question of what happenedwhen the artist relinquishedcontrol over the work and allowednature to interact freely with the surroundings, thereby creatingunique traces of change.
Simple and insistent aesthetic approaches were confrontedwith conditions tied to the unknown and thus influencedwhat lay beyond immediate control.
One of the main works by the American artist Dove Bradshaw from 1996, from the Negative Ionsseries, demonstratedthe creative power of coincidence, where water, drop by drop, reactedwith mountain salt in a gradual search for the lowest point of the room.
Three works by Aske Sigurd Kraul, at the time a new artist on the Danish art scene, activatedmicrocosms that, within a given time and place, revealedhow connections were sensed, even in the presence of viewers.
The Danish gallerist and artist Sam Jedig addedadditional dimensions to both the works and the exhibition space through his Cube Project. The presentation of each of the two other artists’ works was accompaniedby a cube that variedin form and material. Both works and exhibition spaces were articulated, allowing each work and room to unfoldin and out of a cubic perspective.
When conceptual art was supplementedby a four-dimensional spatial perspective, a more open interpretive space emergedfor the viewer’s personal imagination and interpretation.
Sunday, April 28, 15:00–20:00 at Stalke Gallery, Englerupvej 62,
4060 Kirke Sonnerup.
