Annika Ström, Nikolaj Recke, and Thorbjørn Bechmann.
Annika, Nikolaj, and Thorbjørn have, through the last years, worked on psycho- and sociographic investigations of their own relations to their close surroundings. Their works of art have circled around terms such as identity and presence. In their works of art, there have been so many connections regarding content and formal parallels that it is striking they have not earlier been presented together.
Annika Ström is a Swedish artist, educated at The Royal Danish Academy of Art. She lives and works in Berlin and Copenhagen.
Annika, who in recent years has worked with video, presents at Stalke Gallery photographs located at the border between the documentary and the staged. In an environment, somewhere in the middle between the natural and the arranged, she captures people, occupied with their own bodies in gymnastic exercises, which are sometimes almost directly obscure. All photographs are sized 130 x 90 cm.
Nikolaj Recke presents, among other things, the installation "In the Moment of Realisation". The installation consists of a video projection of a work situation. The work of art is self-referential in its construction and illusory narrative of formal terms. The work bounds in a longing and fascination after material and content, which is not learned by heart nor acted out. It is the play between production and presentation that receives a strong physical and visual manifestation. The installation begins in the moment between the spectators' acceptance of the presentation and the realization of what really goes on. The work operates between concrete reality and visual fiction.
Thorbjørn Bechmann has, through the last few years, worked with the social room and each individual's relation to this and to the social room. At this exhibition, he shows paintings that take a less subjective departure in an investigation of middle-human relations, as the paintings as a starting point have the consciousness of a link between aesthetics and the social.
In connection with the exhibition, a catalog has been produced with texts by Jokum Rohde, Steffan Boje af Gennäs, Cecilie Høgsbro, Josephine Berry, and Micz Flor.
