Selected works from Stalke Galleri and the Stalke Collection, curated by Sam Jedig
At the exhibition at Taastrup Art Association, works by artists who had exhibitedat Stalke Galleri over the previous 25 years, as well as works from the gallery’s collection, were on display. These works playeda significant role in both the Danish and international art scenes.
Sam Jedig began operatingthe gallery from Vesterbrogade in 1982 and went on to hostmore than 400 exhibitions. At the time of the exhibition, the gallery was locatedin the village of Kirke Sonnerup between Roskilde and Holbæk, functioning as an alternative exhibition space for modern art in contrast to the more traditional galleries in Copenhagen. The gallery coveredmore than 300 square meters of exhibition space. As a complement to the gallery’s rotating exhibitions, an extensive collection of art from the 1970s to the present day had been established.
From this collection, the Taastrup Art Association borrowedselected works, many of which had previously been shownin the association’s exhibitions over the past 24 years. In particular, the collaboration resultedin eight exhibitions in which Sam Jedig presentedDanish and international art. Over the course of two decades, the association also keptits members informed about developments in contemporary art. The exhibition highlightedhow the collaboration between the private gallery and the municipal art association had developedinto a productive exchange.
