Welcome to "Iceland in Borup"
Skovbo Art Association celebrates its 30th anniversary with an exhibition of distinguished contemporary Icelandic art. The exhibition has been created in collaboration with Gallery Stalke Out of Space.
Diversity could well have been the title of the exhibition "Iceland in Borup" and of contemporary Icelandic art as a whole.
The diversity also applies to the techniques the artists use. Each artist has their own approaches and methods. However, despite the clear variety in materials and techniques compared to earlier periods, the themes and motifs remain the same: light, the sea, culture, history, modernity, family, and macro-topics like the world and the universe.
One might say that the world is shrinking as it is increasingly conveyed through and via media. But this overview and access to information do not answer the question of what it means to be human here and now.
The works selected from Stalke's own collection and works loaned by the artists themselves provide a solid foundation for the exhibition.
In May, Kristleifur Björnsson will exhibit at Tate Modern in London, and in April, Olafur Eliasson will exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
