STALKE GALLERY/Kirke Sonnerup presents
Kaj Nyborg (Front Space)
Søren Dahlgaard (Video Room + Project Room)
Susanne Eybl (Back Space)
It is a great pleasure to open the doors for three solo exhibitions at the same time.
Søren Dahlgaard inaugurates Stalke’s new Video Room with the video work Challenging Dough, where the artist repeatedly performs push-ups in front of a privet hedge. The video is silent, lasts 16 seconds, and loops. Additionally, Dahlgaard presents photographic works titled Dough Portraits, which were recently exhibited at the National Gallery of Denmark. In this work, an absurd meeting occurs between familiar components: portrait photography and dough. The models literally had 10 kg of dough placed on their heads. Søren Dahlgaard thus transforms and challenges the familiar, making us see things in a new way.
Kaj Nyborg’s exhibition DON’T BUILD THIS is built around sculptural models in aluminum:
COMPLEX (FILE 02) and LONG RUN HOME / TWIN A+B.
The models take their starting point in architectural aesthetics, separating themselves from traditional architectural scale models by, upon closer inspection, emerging as cul-de-sacs or blind alleys. The models are not anchored in specific physical spaces but instead aim to open pathways for thought processes that can lead to a reworking and short-circuiting on a more mental level.
Susanne Eybl’s exhibition TWO-FACED REALITY consists of new drawings and collages filled with painful contrasts. On one side, the visual expression of the drawings is characterized by an almost childlike naivety, while on the other side, this naivety is threatened by the thematic content, which is presented with great sarcasm. Each drawing contains a struggle between the idealized dreams of "the good life" in our world and the situations of everyday life in the Western world, which have the potential to bring us back to life's harsh realities.
