FAKE FUCK

At the Copenhagen Alternative Art Fair, Bella Angora and Christian Falsnaes, under the title Fake Fuck, presented a video installation that explored the concept of “fake.” Both artists produced a video based on the same theme. Each video was centered on the overarching title, divided into three distinct parts, and formally structured around a song written by each artist specifically for this project. Bella Angora and Christian Falsnaes each presented their personal interpretation of the title. In the final installation, these two interpretations were shown together, with each video maintaining its own distinct voice.

“Fake” referred to something that pretended to be something other than what it was—something false and deceptive to the recipient. “Fuck” was understood as a multifaceted word encompassing sexuality, controversy, and frustration. Initially, the juxtaposition evoked the idea of a fake (performed) orgasm, but this metaphor was expanded to include the broader social and cultural system of norms, expectations, and communication. In this way, meaning was generated in relation to the video installation Fake Fuck. The work functioned as the artists’ personal depiction of what it meant to be human in a media-based society in 2006.

At the opening of the Copenhagen Alternative Art Fair on the evening of September 22, Bella Angora and Christian Falsnaes performed their piece Sample, a compilation or “medley” of earlier performances combined with new elements. The work could be viewed as the artists’ copy of themselves.
