STRONG DANES IN COLOGNE
Leif Jensen
In the cathedral city of Cologne, three Danes have made their mark in different fields: the football players Morten Olsen, Flemming Povlsen, and Jan Jensen, all with Cologne F.C. And now comes a significant group of Danes who are making their presence felt in the arts. Three Danish galleries are participating in the large Cologne fair from November 10–15, where they will present in a shared corner, almost like a "Danish Corner."
GALERIE EDELING, Gl. Mont, Copenhagen, is Robert Jacobsen’s former gallery, now run by Ivan Edeling and located at Store Robert. Six new sculptures, where at least four are from Edeling’s collection (and it is said some are by Robert himself), will be displayed along with a series of oil crayon drawings from around 1960, black-and-white ink drawings from 1948, and some of the graphics that Edeling has produced in collaboration with RJ. Edeling’s booth will also feature Jacob Jorgensen’s film from Jernert’s studio, a production co-created with Robert. Nur O Jacobsen, who is virtually unknown in West Germany, where he worked as a sculptor and professor in Munich, will also be represented at the fair with several works aimed at collectors and art enthusiasts.
SUSANNE OTTESEN, St. Kongensgade, Copenhagen, has an impressive array of artists: Per Kirkeby, Bjørn Nørgaard, Kirsten Ortwed, and Troels Wörsel, along with West German A.R. Penck. Both Ortwed and Wörsel reside and work in West Germany, and the gallery’s exhibit at Kirkeby’s booth centers around a monumental piece. A large piece by Michael Werner, currently in Cologne, measuring 2.5 x 1.5 meters of graphics, as well as bronze sculptures by Bjørn Nørgaard, are included. Kirsten Ortwed displays wax sculptures, Wörsel presents paintings and Penck graphics, while Susanne Ottesen showcases recent publications. Recently, she has also been busy at her gallery in St. Kongensgade, exhibiting 30 bronze sculptures by Bjørn Nørgaard.
GALERIE STALKE, Vestergrobrødge, Copenhagen, also enters with strong material: works by Thomas Bang, two large works created in collaboration with Torben Ebbesen, and an impressive international profile built around Margrethe Sørensen. Mogens Møller, known for his large bronze sculptures housed in The Danish State Museum, lends his unique blend of artistic craft.
Now, five Danish artists from three galleries are strongly represented on the same international fair backdrop first competitive FIAC-Pair collaboration representatives promotions
