William Anthony (1934–2022) initiated a significant and long-standing collaboration with Artstamp.dk in 2009, resulting in an extensive series of approximately 75 works published between 2009 and 2022. These “art stamps” represent a distinct and autonomous body within Anthony’s oeuvre, where his characteristic satirical visual language was embedded in a philatelic format layered with conceptual depth.
The Artstamp project stands as a cohesive and independent work in Anthony’s artistic practice, employing humor, irony, and visual absurdity as analytical tools to expose power structures, religious iconography, and the institutional frameworks of art. The stamp format served as both a democratic and subversive medium, through which Anthony challenged the exclusivity of the art world and made his reflections on human behavior and cultural norms widely accessible.
Through Artstamp.dk, these works were exhibited at museums and galleries across the globe, reinforcing Anthony’s position as an artist of sharp intellectual insight and consistent resistance to the pretensions of the art establishment. His stamps endure as a testament to an artistic strategy in which the miniature and seemingly banal are transformed into potent and lasting commentary on the foundational assumptions of both art and society.
