søren dahlgaard

Since 2008, Søren Dahlgaard has participated in several group exhibitions at Stalke Galleri, contributing his distinctive blend of performance, participation, and conceptual strategies. His works explore themes of identity, absurdity, and social interaction, adding both visual impact and critical depth to the exhibition contexts in which they appear.

A key collaboration has unfolded through Stalke’s Artstamp project, where Dahlgaard has produced three complete stamp sheets featuring works from his internationally recognized Dough Portraits series. In these portraits, large lumps of dough are placed over the models’ heads, distorting their features and obscuring identity. Translated into stamp format, these sculptural performances take on a new visual language — one that is intimate, concentrated, and subtly unsettling.

Through this Artstamp edition, Dahlgaard’s exploration of body, humor, and transformation finds a new dimension. The miniature scale reinforces the intensity of the gaze and the quiet provocation of the dough-covered portraits. His work stands as a compelling example of how performative photography can be reimagined in printed form — and still retain its full conceptual force.
