Per Bak Jensen and Stalke Galleri: A Strategic Collaboration at the Edges of Photography

Per Bak Jensen’s collaboration with Stalke Galleri began in 1989 with the group exhibition Guest, where he participated in an experimental environment shaped by conceptual and cross-media practices. This exhibition marked the beginning of a long-term relationship that played a significant role in the presentation and positioning of his photographic work within the context of contemporary art.

In the late 1990s, the gallery organized solo exhibitions with Per Bak Jensen,1998, Wandering (Gennemstrejf ), His distinctive visual language—characterized by silence, emptiness, and metaphysical presence—was articulated in close dialogue with the gallery’s curatorial sensibility.

Stalke Galleri represented him at Art Frankfurt 1999 and 2000, and a major solo exhibition at Galerie von Bartha in Basel marked the culmination of an internationalization process initiated by the gallery, positioning his work within a broader European context.

Following his collaboration with Stalke, Per Bak Jensen’s exhibition activity in Copenhagen was continued by Galleri Bo Bjerggaard, where his practice was embedded in new artistic

Constellations and continued to receive significant attention both nationally and internationally.

The collaboration between Per Bak Jensen and Stalke Galleri stands today as a compelling example of how an independent, curatorially driven gallery could support and disseminate a complex photographic practice with both local grounding and international reach.
