Sonja Lillebæk Christensen

Sonja Lillebæk Christensen (b. 1972) is a Danish visual artist known for her video installations and narrative-driven works exploring identity, class, and belonging. Educated at The Jutland Art Academy in 2003, she later co-founded the artist-run exhibition space Sydhavn Station in Copenhagen in 2012.

In 2008, she presented the solo exhibition Mad About the Boy as part of Stalke Up North, Gothersgade, Copenhagen. The exhibition was accompanied by an extensive catalogue featuring a text by Jacob Lillemose. Her work at Stalke combined video projection, photography, and installation, examining everyday social realities through poetic and cinematic storytelling.

Lillebæk Christensen has exhibited widely, including at Statens Museum for Kunst, Overgaden, Galleri Image, and international biennials such as the Busan Biennale and Sea Art Festival. Her art remains deeply rooted in autobiographical reflection and social observation, revealing the gaps and tensions between cultural norms and lived experience.
