Lars Mathisen

Lars Mathisen first exhibited at Stalke Galleri in 1996 with the solo exhibition The Only Thing That Makes Reality, Is You, presenting a series of installation-based works that merged image, text, and structure. The exhibition combined two ongoing projects, Safe Condition

and Dead End Path, and explored psychological and perceptual states of safety, confinement, and self-awareness. Using Polaroid images, framed panels, and printed newspapers, Mathisen staged a spatial dialogue about how reality and identity are formed through representation and repetition.

He also participated in group exhibitions at Stalke, including Status 2, alongside a generation of experimental Danish artists. Mathisen’s artistic practice spans collage, film, photography, sound, and installation, often addressing relations of power between the individual and society.
