Julia Oschatz

Julia Oschatz (b. 1970, Darmstadt, Germany) is a Berlin-based contemporary artist whose practice spans drawing, painting, video, performance, and large-scale installations. Her works explore the tension between physical reality, psychological space, and the absurd, often featuring a solitary, mask-like figure engaged in clownish or experimental actions that blur the boundary between human, animal, and object.

Oschatz first exhibited at Stalke Galleri in 2006 with the solo exhibition Video Art, presenting the video installation The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea. The show introduced her to a Danish audience and established her presence within Stalke’s international program. She later participated in several Stalke projects, including Flashback and Guest in 2016, and contributed to multiple On View exhibitions that showcased international artists working across media.

Her practice combines painting, animation, and performance with an ongoing exploration of perception, alienation, and transformation. Through shifts between humor and existential seriousness, her works invite the viewer to reflect on human behavior and the fragile structures of reality itself.
