Christoph Draeger (b. 1965, Zurich) is a Swiss conceptual and media artist known for his investigations into catastrophe, tragedy, and the influence of mass media on collective memory. Working across film, installation, and photography, Draeger explores the blurred boundaries between truth and fiction, often reconstructing historical disasters and cinematic violence to expose how images of trauma circulate in popular culture.
In 1998, Draeger participated as a guest artist in Make Believe at Stalke Galleri, curated by Christoph Oswald, alongside Susann Walder and Per Traasdahl. The exhibition received significant attention in Denmark for its critical engagement with media representation and the aesthetics of simulation. Draeger’s video installations and staged re-enactments questioned the ethics of spectatorship, revealing how catastrophe has become an aesthetic form within the global media landscape.
Draeger has exhibited internationally, including at PS1, New York; Kunsthalle Sankt Gallen; Museum of Contemporary Art, Zurich; and Kadist, Paris. His work is represented in major museum collections and continues to address the intersection of media, memory, and social condition.
