Lars Bent Petersen

Lars Bent Petersenis a Danish sculptor and installation artist, educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen (1985–1992). His practice revolves around appropriation, materiality, and the conditions of meaning in art – often using found objects, handmade components, and subtle formal displacements. His works appear both poetic and conceptually precise, referencing the role of the artist, audience perception, and the symbolic structures of society.

Lars Bent Petersen first exhibited with Stalke Galleri in 1989at the exhibition space Baghuset, an experimental satellite venue connected to the gallery. This early solo presentation marked the beginning of a long-standing collaboration and was followed by several key exhibitions during the 1990s. His works from this period explored personal, structural, and institutional themes in a single, cohesive expression.

In the late 1980s, Petersen co-founded and co-edited the influential art journal Åndsindustri(1988–1991), which helped define a new critical and theoretical awareness in Danish contemporary art. He is represented in several public collections, including the Kastrupgård Collection and the Esbjerg Art Museum, and has received multiple grants from institutions such as the Danish Arts Foundation. His works often strike a balance between precision and ambiguity – imbued with quiet humour or a critical undertone.
