Since the late 1990s, Kaj Nyborg has been a central figure in the program of Stalke Galleri. He first exhibited here in 1997 and soon established himself as one of the key artists shaping the gallery’s development throughout the 2000s and beyond. With exhibitions such as dean martin delirium+ (2004) and don’t build this (2008), he demonstrated his ability to create conceptual installations where everyday objects and familiar forms are shifted and transformed into something strange, poetic, and often unsettling.
Educated at the School of Arts and Crafts in Kolding and the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, Nyborg’s practice has always been marked by an exploration of space, perception, and the dissolution of the familiar. His works operate in the tension between recognition and distortion, opening up a critical reflection on social and cultural constructs. Many of his installations carry a cinematic presence, where scenographic gestures and subtle displacements evoke a sense of both nostalgia and dissonance.
Over the years, Kaj Nyborg’s exhibitions have helped define Stalke Galleri’s profile as a site for experimental and conceptual contemporary art. His persistent investigation of the boundary between the ordinary and the uncanny has made him one of the gallery’s most significant artists.
