Frans Jacobi is a Danish visual artist working with film, performance, text, and image. His practice often takes the form of large-scale, scenographic installations and performative scenarios involving multiple participants, exploring political and social themes through an urgent and sensuous aesthetic.
Jacobi had his first exhibitions at Stalke in the mid-1990s and, up until around 2000, took part in several significant projects. During this period, he became one of the leading forces pushing a new generation of Danish contemporary artists forward, challenging conventional exhibition formats and artistic practices.
In 2012, he earned a PhD from Malmö Art Academy/Lund University with the project Aesthetics of Resistance, in which activism and aesthetics merge through a series of performative “sense-events” in Scandinavia and China. The same year he was appointed Professor of Time-based Art at the Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design (KMD), University of Bergen.
He is also co-founder of the research collective SYNSMASKINEN (2014) and Green Hijab Productions (2017), which produced the climate-futuristic web-TV series Are You Ready?.
