DOVE BRADSHAW
(USA)
Dove Bradshaw (b. 1949, New York)has been a vital part of Stalke Galleri since the late 1980s. Her artistic practice has played a significant role in shaping the gallery’s direction and its connections to experimental international contemporary art.
Since 1969, Bradshaw has pioneered the use of indeterminacyin sculpture, painting, installation, and conceptual work—integrating time, weather, erosion, and atmospheric forces into both materials and processes. She works with natural, chemical, and industrial materials that change over time under environmental influence. Her works include chemical paintingsthat respond to the air, salt sculpturesthat slowly dissolve indoors, and outdoor stone sculpturesshaped by the elements.
Other projects incorporate crystals that receive radio transmissions—from local and shortwave stations to weather signals and even radio telescope signals from Jupiter—linking her practice to science, cosmology, and systems beyond human control.
Bradshaw has received numerous major awards, including the National Endowment for the Arts(1975), the Pollock-Krasner Award(1985), a Furthermore Grant(2003), and support from the National Science Foundation for Artists(2006). Her work has been exhibited regularly in the United States, Europe, South America, Japan, and South Korea, including at the 6th Gwangju Biennale.
Her art is held in the permanent collections of many leading institutions, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art, New York, The National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C., The Art Institute of Chicago, The British Museum, Centre Pompidou, Paris, and The Marble Palace, Russian State Museum, St. Petersburg.
At Stalke Galleri, Bradshaw has participated in numerous exhibitions since 1988. She has also curated important projects in Denmark, including One Moreat Esbjerg Art Museumand Anastasi – Bradshaw – Cageat The Museum of Contemporary Art in Roskilde(2001), both of which marked significant moments in the exchange between American and Danish experimental art.
