Christian Schmidt-Rasmussen – Narrative Painting and Installations | Stalke Galleri

Christian Schmidt-Rasmussen is a Danish painter and installation artist whose work is deeply rooted in narrative and poetry. His paintings and installations often unfold in the space between the autobiographical and the universal, where fragments of everyday life are transformed into dreamlike, utopian imagery. With a strong connection to literature, performance, and cultural surroundings, Schmidt-Rasmussen has consistently developed a practice that balances personal reflection with broader social themes.

From 1991 to 1996, Schmidt-Rasmussen collaborated closely with Stalke Galleri. His first appearance was in Baghuset’sinaugural international exhibition in Stockholm, marking the beginning of a fruitful exchange between the artist and the gallery. This was followed by a solo exhibition as well as several group shows, where his work was presented alongside both Danish and international contemporaries. These exhibitions not only highlighted Schmidt-Rasmussen’s unique narrative voice, but also placed him within the experimental and cross-disciplinary focus that characterized Stalke’s program during the early 1990s.

Schmidt-Rasmussen has since continued to expand his practice through numerous solo and group exhibitions in Denmark and abroad. His works are represented in major collections, including The National Gallery of Denmark, The Royal Collection of Graphic Art, Kobberstiksamlingen, Kastrupgård Collection, and Sammlung Essl in Vienna.
