Stalke Out of Space Project #25

Frankfurt Art Fair 1999

In the period from April 22 to 26, 1999, at Art Frankfurt 99, Stalke Galleri exhibited a collection of works by the photographer Per Bak Jensen.

At the exhibition, a series of color slides was shown via a slide projector, outlining the artistic space Per Bak Jensen had created over the previous ten years. In addition, Stalke Galleri selected a series of photographic works to be presented at Art Frankfurt 99.

These pictures represented Per Bak Jensen’s distinctive perspective on the world. At first glance, the viewer encountered a series of easily recognizable scenes that might have appeared somewhat subdued. However, upon closer inspection, the images revealed a disturbing and obtrusive pattern—life and its perishability—that resonated with the viewer. The essence of these works, like life itself, lay in their ability to convey a sense that touched the viewer and invited reflection.

To provide insight into the works, Per Bak Jensen wrote:

WANDERING

“In time, my mind, in its solitude, had developed a capacity for letting go of its anchoring in the intellect. In order to refrain from losing my firm connection to the world, I pursued this disposition and mapped out, through my pictures, the areas that had been wandered over.”
