Artstamp – Artists and Editions

Artstamp was founded in 2007 as an artistic project initiated by Sam Jedig, following in the footsteps of Stalke Out of Space, which since 1991 has explored new exhibition formats and alternative spaces for contemporary art. While Out of Space brought art into unexpected contexts and challenged the frameworks of traditional institutions, Artstamp took the idea one step further: the postage stamp was transformed into an artistic platform, a mobile exhibition space, and a democratic medium for reflection and dialogue.

Since its beginning, more than 80 artists have participated in the project – many of them with several editions over the years. Among them are Dove Bradshaw, William Anthony, Lars Schwander, and Thorbjørn Lausten, each of whom created series that both challenge the stamp format and add new layers of meaning. Sam Jedig’s own editions form a consistent core of the project, weaving together personal, political, and historical themes.

Curator Jacob Lillemose has described Artstamp.dk as “the world’s smallest and largest exhibition space”: measured by a ruler, the stamp is only a few centimeters in size, but through its circulation in postal systems, collections, and exhibitions, it becomes a global platform for artistic messages. The project transcends boundaries – geographical, institutional, and social – insisting that even the smallest format can carry the largest of ideas.
